Joint Action SAFE

JA-SAFE: Joint Action on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention including Smoke- and Aerosol-Free Environments.
As part of JA-SAFE, we collaborate with 23 countries and 62 institutions across Europe to reduce tobacco consumption, promote smoke- and aerosol-free environments, and strengthen prevention through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
JA-SAFE aims to significantly reduce tobacco use and exposure to second-hand smoke across Europe, contributing to the EU’s goal of achieving a tobacco-free generation by 2040, where less than 5% of the population uses tobacco.
Running for 48 months until October 2029, the project involves 62 institutions from 23 countries. Its primary objective is to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as cancer, by strengthening the prevention of tobacco- and alcohol-related harm.
Region Zealand’s Role plays a central role in the project as lead as the lead for Work Package 7 (WP7), which focuses on implementing the best methods for tobacco control within the healthcare system (hospitals and clinics).
Within WP7, Forskningsenheden i Staben is specifically leading task 7.5, dedicated to developing digital communication strategies for patients and visitors. This task aims to integrate motivational messaging and smoking cessation resources directly into existing digital tools, such as patient portals and information screens, moving beyond traditional physical signage.
Forskningsenheden i Staben further supports the project by providing communication services (WP2), qualitative research for evaluation (WP3), and project management support for WP7.
The project is co-funded by the European Union under the EU4Health program.
